Beta Stats

Here's some interesting stats from the beta:
  • 29 accounts were registered
  • 2815 experience points were earned by registered users
  • Highest rank achieved: level 9 by two users
  • The balanced ship was the most selected

You can see from the chart above that the balanced ship was selected the most. This is expected, it is the most accessible and easiest to start off with. The heavy and light ships were selected approximately the same amount and at a decent proportion to the balanced ship. Using this data and gameplay data, the ships seem to fit their roles pretty well.

The registered player ranks are shown in the graph above. Most players did not have a rank, meaning they did not earn any experience points. This usually means they created an account but didn't play a game with other players. The beta was relatively unknown so this isn't too surprising, but it shows that the game definitely needs to have players in the lobby. The rest of the ranks are pretty spread out other than ranks 1 and 2, so they are pretty well balanced. In the final version there will be many more ranks however.

    1. The thing about rank 0 is actually what worries me the most - it basically boils down to the fact that people aren't always online at the same times. Everyone live in completely different time zones, and getting random strangers into the game at a certain time just ends up to be hard. Granted, I suppose that's what FaceBook is for...

At the moment, I suppose the main thing that Nexus needs would be public knowledge, and more correspondence amongst members on FB. Patience would be very well appreciated as well.

(Surprises me that of the 29 accounts registered, only 11 (give or take) have played against other players. This also does not take into account of guests, who, for obvious reasons, are not recorded)

    2. The numbers seem low at first glance but they really aren't too bad. I only gave a two day warning before the testing began and it ran for less than a week so a lot of people didn't have much of a chance try it out.

Also you'd be surprised how many people played as guests. I'd say roughly for every registered account that signed in there was at least three guests that also signed in. Some of the unused registered accounts were most likely people who created it when nobody was on, and then didn't sign in the next time they tried the game when people were on.

You're very right about getting public knowledge though. This game cannot survive just off of people who used to play wormhole. I wouldn't worry about it though, once the game is nearing completion or finished I have some plans to try to get it noticed. Still make sure to tell your friends to play and to spread the word to help it out.

I did learn that people who played games and got an actual taste of the game play really enjoyed it for the most part and came back to play more. This is a really good sign for the future, I just need to work on getting people initially hooked (presentation is a big part of that and that's next on my checklist).
